Funding established organizations through membership sustaining funds (monthly donations) targeted donations and/or volounteer time, is perhaps the "easiest" way to participate in society and to support social change.

Everyone except the impoverished themselves can particpate. However in France, it has even been demonstrated that homeless people who were organized to assit with the frail and ill had a higher success rate of returning to productive society.

There are several thousand NGO's (non governmental associations) in Canada involved in charitable advocacy work from the local to the global levels. Choose your recipients carefully,and investigate the organizations. Enjoy the process of donating, allocate a percentage of your available monies and be pleased and grateful that it is your lot in life to help others.

Do you prefer to be part of a major organization or support a smaller one that you can readily envision. Do you want to be personally involved and is that possible. Do you want to find both types of groups. Do you want an overallview of your arena of interest such as "freshwater". Membership in many relevant groups (usually a modest fee) for which you will receive annual reports that will give you a sense of where the issue is at and what is still needed.

Donate and participate at all levels, local, regional, provincial and national, perhaps not all at the same time.
